Accident in the UK:
Accident at work
Each year within the United Kingdom thousands of people are involved in an accident within the work place. The accident might happen whilst carrying out simple tasks or following instructions from your supervisor.
It is important to understand that your employer has a responsibility to provide a safe working environment, organise any appropriate training, and make sure you are provided with suitable personal protective equipment. If your employer has failed to provide any of these necessities and they contributed to your accident then you have a right to claim compensation.
It is important that you understand that you have a right to claim compensation! It is illegal for your employer to terminate your contract of employment or mistreat you as a direct result of you claiming compensation.
If you are involved in an accident that occurred within your work place, your employer should inform the HSE Incident Contact Centre. Serious accidents may then be checked by an inspector. If your employer has not reported your accident sufficiently, you can do this yourself.
Many work places may have particular deficiencies with cause for concern. If you have any doubts regarding health and safety you should contact the Health and Safety Executive or your Councils’ Health & Safety.
